TOP OF THE ROCK
An experience in history and scenery that culminates with unparalleled views of New York City from the newly renovated Observation Deck on the 70th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, in the heart of midtown Manhattan at Rockefeller Center. The view itself is unique and astonishing, unobstructed for 360 degrees and stretching for miles in every direction. It includes a panorama of Central Park and the northern half of Manhattan that can't be found anywhere else. New York's other landmarks are visible as well, including the Chrysler Building, Times Square, the Hudson River, the East River, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. NYC on Ice
In New York, where navigating Fifth Avenue during rush hour is considered an outdoor sport, a whirl around the ice rink is getting back to nature. The City boasts many options for blade-runners. The Pond at Bryant Park features 'Free Skate Wednesdays. In Central Park, there's the Lasker Rink at 110th Street, and Wollman Rink, set a stone's throw from the Park's 59th Street entrance, which offers figure skating and ice dancing lessons. The golden statues and multinational flags at the Rockefeller Center Rink make even humble figure-eights feel Olympian. Cheer on the New York Rangers, who have a slate of home games at Madison Square Garden this month.

Making Arrangements
Before April showers arrive, floral festivals are springing up all around New York. When the 34th annual Macy's Flower Show takes over the 34th Street flagship, landscapes are arranged to echo periods in fashion. Lifestyle expert Martha Stewart kicks off the event on March 16. From bustling Herald Square to a corner for quiet contemplation: welcome the Staten Island Botanical Garden's Plum Blossom Festival, March 23'30 in the Chinese Scholar's Garden, where the symbol of good fortune colors the architectural landscape. The orchid is an emblem of beauty and mystery.

A Toast...
Cheers. Salud. A votre santé. No matter how you say it, there's no better time to raise a glass than now, with specialty wine bars opening citywide. Xai Xai South African Winebar in Midtown West, named for the beach town in Mozambique, offers a wine list and smoky, salty pairings from the African region. On the Upper East Side, quirky glass jug chandeliers enliven Felice Wine Bar, in the space formerly occupied by Focaccia Fiorentino, as well as the Tuscan specialties. Wine 101'offered by NYC Wine Class lets you perfect your palette and impress your date the next time you're out

Arts Scene
From digital canvases to designer heels, there are several new exhibitions to usher in the season. Championing feminist art and collaboration, the Bronx Museum and P.S.1 join up, appropriately, for Making it Together: Women's Collaborative Art and Community, March 2'August 4. One of the most famed group exhibitions in contemporary art, the Whitney Biennial 2008 opens March 6. For the first time, the influential survey of international artists extends to the Park Avenue Armory for installations and performances. Christian Louboutin's signature crimson-soled stilettos are frequently spotted on art patrons and the Us Weekly set. Fawn over the Parisian's dreamy designs at Sole Desire: The Shoes of Christian Louboutin, opening March 13 at the F.I.T. Museum. Those still toddling in mom's high heels enjoy visits to the Children's Museum of the Arts. The SoHo institution celebrates 20 years of encouraging kids to create.
Discover the next big thing at the New York International Art Expo, the world's largest popular and fine art fair. The fair'now marking its 30th anniversary'includes a hall of fame to commemorate its biggest names, like Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg.
Great Plays
When the peanut shells crackle beneath your feet and bathroom lines stretch further than a line drive, it must be opening day. On March 31, the New York Yankees take on the Toronto Blue Jays, kick-starting the Bronx Bombers' final season in historic Yankee Stadium. And just over a week later, the New York Mets have their home opener at Shea Stadium. While baseball season is just ramping up, college hoops bracket fanatics are in full swing. In the City, a major tourney sidelines March Madness: the National Invitation Tournament, beginning March 18 at various campus locations and culminating at the Garden on April 1 and 3. Leaving the court behind for quieter combat, the New York Open Judo Championship pushes its way through the New York Athletic Club on March 9.

New and Notable
As spring approaches, so does convertible season here in the City. Get a sneak peek'and up-close look'at what you'll see on the road with the New York International Auto Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center March 21'30. The latest trends in art will also be uncovered this month at The Armory Show, The International Fair of New Art, taking place March 27'30 at Pier 94. On March 23, the Easter Parade along Fifth Avenue is the place to be as people and their pets don elaborate designs. Fashion of another kind can also be found on Fifth Avenue at the recently opened Gucci flagship store. And for a perfect place to take that new bag, consider Adour, the new Alain Ducasse hotspot at the St. Regis hotel. There, in addition to fine food and wine, each David Rockwell'designed chair has a ledge to hold (and display) your purse. And in the old Alain Ducasse location at the Jumeirah Essex House, South Gate just opened, featuring contemporary American cuisine from celebrated chef Kerry Heffernan (previously of Eleven Madison Park).
